Hsiao Hsien Chu gave me treatment again today. She asked about Denny with genuine concern. I answered as well as i could; "yesterday he didnt want company but he didnt want to be alone". I didn't say he was drinking or he was smoking, but i told her that he asked for dinner and I made a good pot roast with garlic mashed potatoes on the side. And that Teamoh and Cherokee and Peter and Masha all came over and we ate well even thought there wasnt any thing playing on the TV. And I told her that denny kind of went to sleep while we were all still there.
Also, I conned her out of another jar of her excellent homade tiger balm, the other one was horribly squashed by some ones S.U.V.; it must have fallen out of the car when I unloaded the food.
Hsiao Hsien told me tha she really admires Masha. She doesn't have to say why but she says that Masha has lived an incredibly full life.Then we talked more and thats all private. She said that her daaughter is back now three weeks? threedays? and she is so happy to see her getting her spirit back and to be with her. She also told me about how she was rebellious as a youngster. She came here from China when she was ten. and when she was fourteen or so she told her father F-U and he could not deal with it. She could not understand how her friends parents were so liberal and American and her family wanted that for her but then they were so strict.
Usually she leaves the room to attend to other patients, and i lie for ten or twenty minutes with the needles in... but today she wanted to talk, and I was glad for her company.
I agree with Antoin Artaud that an actors goal is to make his job unnecessary. This applies to artists and teachers and doctors as well. When you do it right, the world gets better.
